Hill Cottage description

Hill Cottage, which sleeps 5 comfortably or up to 7/8 if the bed settees are utilised, is a wonderfully cosy rustic place of traditional stone and slate construction which was previously a gamekeepers abode for the old Caladh Estate. The interior has natural stone walls and pine clad roof and wooden floor boards. Heating is by virtue of two log fires, and there are additional calor gas heaters for those cold nights. One of the log fires has a back boiler which produces piping hot fresh and wholesome mountain stream water in which you can bathe in a deep cast iron Victorian bath. Take the candles in with some wine and music and keep topping up the hot! Well recommended. Lighting is by virtue of candles and oil lamps and there is a torch and battery powered light for late night visits to the WC. There’s also a stereo radio cassette with a box of charged batteries. Please note there is no electricity or land telephone line, and you won’t miss them.

Two of the cottage boundaries are small streams – very quiet unless there is prolonged inclement weather – with a small wooden bridge over the Alt Dubh (Gallic for black water) to the front to an open area where it is possible to cut wood and build fires outside should you be inclined.
