Hill Cottage
by Tighnabruaich, Argyll. Scotland

Surrounding area

Hill cottage is located about 2 miles north of the adjoining villages of Tighnabruaich and Kames, where there are 2 excellent supermarkets, garage with petrol and workshop, 3 hotels, sailing school, shinty pitch – the Kyles team have won all honours over the years - tennis courts, and 9 hole golf course, with spectacular views over the Kyles of Bute.

Tighnabruaich

Tighnabruaich is located on the Cowal peninsula in the district of Argyle & Bute on the west coast of Scotland around 2 hours from Glasgow. The area is a wonderful place to visit for relaxation and recreation, to take your mind out of gear, shed the woes of everyday life and while away some pleasurable time.

The Cowal peninsula is surrounded by the Isle of Bute to the east, the Isle of Arran to the south and the Campbeltown peninsula to the west. If you chose to drive to the cottage instead of taking the ferry route you will pass over the “rest and be thankful” some of the roadway that inspired Paul McCartney to write “the Long and Winding Road” when he stayed at his Campbeltown steading.

The closer you get the more you shed, and once you leave you will be able to go home and ride well above those issues which should never really bother you. There is something really majical and rejuvenating about living amongst the wilds of sea, moor and mountainscapes that dissolves so much and will replenish anyone. Check out the

The west coast location also benefits from a warmer climate as a result of the Gulf Stream, often resulting in a pleasingly conducive microclimate – even t-shirts whilst in the winter sun on occasion believe it or not!

Hillwalking

There are many walkways in the area with sign posted pathways to make the going easier, and of course there are various wonderful beaches, coastlines, moorland and mountains to discover.

Bird watching, Flora and Fauna

A wide variety of species inhabit the terrains of mountain, moorland, woodland, copse, farmland, coastline, sea and estuary in the vicinity.

Golf

The Kyles of Bute Golf Club is located in an elevated position above the village of Kames which adjoins Tighnabruaich to the South. The course has 9 holes and has outstanding views over the Kyles of Bute. The Club welcomes visitors and booking can be arranged by calling 01700 811603.

Fishing

The area boasts excellent Trout and Salmon fishing in the nearby rivers and lochs and allegedly a nearby river is the second best Salmon river in Scotland. The Kyles of Bute offers good mackerel fishing from the pier and boats can be hired locally.
